One of David Hockney’s dachshund paintings just sold for $4.6 million!

The artwork titled ‘Dog Painting 17’ features one of his beloved dachshunds, Stanley. It sold for an incredible £3,506,000 (approximately $4.65 million USD) at auction at Christie’s London. This price is $1.3 million over the high estimate, and is the first time one of Hockney’s dachshund paintings has even been available at auction! It’s one of only six privately owned dachshund pieces by him.

David Hockney had two dachshunds named Stanley and Boodgie who were the inspiration behind much of his art. He created an entire series called ‘Dog Days’ where he captured them sleeping, lounging, and just being dachshunds at his California home.
